Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s ranked play will be shut down at the end of Season Six.
As a reminder for players, Treyarch Studios reiterated in atweetyesterday (November 27) that Season Six will be the final season forModern Warfare 2before the release ofModern Warfare 3Season Oneon December 6. However, the studio went on to add that the end of the season will also mark the end of ranked play inModern Warfare 2for good.
“Notice: Ranked Play will be taken offline at the end of Season Six,” Treyarch said. “At that time, players will no longer be able to access Ranked Play menus, and rewards for MP [multiplayer] andWZ[Warzone] will be distributed when cross-launching intoMW2.”
This means players will only have one week to earn the remainder of the Ranked Play Division and Seasonal rewards before they’re gone for good along with the game mode.
Activision hasn’t stated the reason for shutting down ranked play in the 2022 game, but it’s possible that it could be turning its focus to the recent release ofModern Warfare 3and its ranked play, which isset to release with Season One.
Also arriving in Season One is a brand-new battle pass and all new rewards, along with three 6v6 maps - Meat, Greece, and Rio - as well as the 2v2 Training Facility and the Gunfight mode, a 2v2 experience that has been featured in the last twoModern Warfaregames, as well as a collection ofWarzoneupdates.
Elsewhere, Activision recently announced thatModern Warfare 3has broken player engagement records since its launch earlier this month. Despite not supplying statistics, the publisher said that the game’s Zombies mode is “the most engaging third mode inMWhistory” and that campaign players have spent “more time per player inMW3than the previous two installments.”
