Key notes

Bing might not be the most popular search engine in the world, but it has definitely gotten better over the years. Recently, Microsoft has invested a lot of resources in Bing, andits AI capabilities are very exciting.

However, despite its low usage on a global scale, Bing has found an audience in China.According to the latest search engine statistics, Bing has become the most popular search engine there, overtaking Baidu.

In the last year, Microsoft added a lot of new features to Bing, and many more will come in future updates. Overall, Bing still struggles despite the useful updates, but it seems that the Chinese population is fully embracing it.

This Reddit threadhas the statistics if you want to check them out.

How popular is Bing in China?

According to the statistics, between June 2022 and February 2023, Bing was experiencing downs and lows on the popularity chart. However, starting in March 2023, Bing has started to rise to the first place in popularity in China. And it currently holds the spot.

In doing so, the AI-enhanced tool has overtaken Baidu, which has been the Chinese Google for many years. It seems that Baidu is slowly but surely losing its popularity.According to a local Chinese publication, Baidu’s market share has dropped to 27%, while Bing’s market share has increased to 37,4%.

However, according to this chart, Baidu is still the leader in Chinese market share when it comes to search engines. Having a 56% portion of the market share, Baidu is the Chinese population destination in search engines and all devices.

So Bing is only popular on the desktop, but when it comes to the overall market share, it stays at 18,8%.

Given that Microsoft will further enhance Bing with useful AI features, it will probably become the country’s most popular search engine overall soon.
