During the latestDestiny 2live event that took place on November 9, 2020 at 9:50 PM ET (the day before theBeyond Light expansion), players were able to watch as the Traveler, the mysterious sphere that gives the Guardians their Light and power, healed the damage that it took during the events of the original Red War campaign when the game launched. The Traveler appeared to regenerate itself by drawing in energy from all around it, brightening the skies as it healed. The character Eris Morn commented that the Traveler healing itself would not result in the end of the conflict between itself and the Darkness “Pyramids” that have been threatening the universe; it will merely cause the conflict to escalate.

Following this, all players were shown a cutscene in which the Darkness seemingly took over the planets of Mars, Mercury, Io, and Titan (the planets that are being removed when Beyond Light goes live), but then was stopped from spreading further by a burst of Light energy from the rejuvenated Traveler. This likely suggests that the Traveler is going to be taking a much more active role in fighting the Darkness as the Pyramids continue to press into the galaxy.

Finally, the Destiny 2 servers went offline, and players were shown a message from the Darkness: “Light cannot save you. Seek us out on Europa.” Europa is the location where the Beyond Light expansion is mainly taking place, and we know that Guardians will be able to wield the Darkness through Stasis in the expansion, so it will be interesting to see what the Darkness does next.

Overall, what did you think of the live event? I thought it was cool, although I do think things took a little bit too long to get going.
