Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 won’t release in 2021, says Activision

Diablo 4andOverwatch 2won’t be released in 2021, Activision Blizzard has confirmed via a conference call accompanying the release of itsQ4 2020 financial results.
When Diablo 4 was revealed at BlizzCon 2019, Blizzard Entertainment stated that it wasn’t going to be released anytime soon, “not even Blizzard soon.” That statement is holding true, though no such comment was given for Overwatch 2. In the conference call, Activision Blizzard also stated that Overwatch 2 passed a major development milestone back in December 2020.
Blizzard sharedquarterly design updateson Diablo 4 throughout 2020, though the nature of these updates indicates that of the two games, Overwatch 2 is closer to being releaed.
Blizzard’s development efforts are ramping up, with Activision-owned studio Vicarious Visions beingmergedinto Blizzard. The team is reportedly working on a remaster of Diablo 2, appropriately titled Diablo 2: Resurrected. This remaster could be released later in the year, though we’ll have to wait and see.
While it appears neither of these games will be released this year, players should expect updates on both titles at BlizzConline later in February. Even with the ongoing pandemic, it’s possible we could see release windows for at least Overwatch 2 announced.
Overwatch 2 continues the popular multiplayer that players enjoy, adding in new story-based content. Meanwhile, Diablo 4 is going back the series' darker Gothic roots, with astory and lorefocused on the return of Lilith. Both games are currently slated to release on Xbox One, PC and PS4, though next-generation support for the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5 seems likely.
