The E3 2023 event has officially been canceled. This comes after multiple big players in the gaming industry like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Ubisoft pulled back and indicated thatthey were going to skip it. The event was set tomake a comebackin an in-person event in Los Angeles scheduled for June 13 through to June 16.
Admittedly, E3 has been through a couple of rough patches dating back to the time when both Sony and Nintendo opted out of hosting their annual gaming showcases at the convention prior to the pandemic. And it seems that it’s not quite over the hump just yet.
According toIGN, the Entertainment Software Association sent out emails to its member yesterday indicating that the event had been canceled. The email stated that E3 2023 didn’t quite attract enough interest for the company to properly showcase its size, strength, as well as, role it plays in the industry.
The Global VP of Gaming at ReedPop, Kyle Marsden-Kish stated:
This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.
In the announcement, it was also highlighted that ReedPop and the ESA will continue to partner together in future E3 events. A clear indication that the cancellation of E3 2023 doesn’t necessarily mean there it won’t happen in the future.
Despite opting out of E3, Ubisoft’s plan tohost its own eventin Los Angeles on June 12 is still on course. Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
