Late last month,Epic Game announced a fundraising initiative for Ukrainethat would see them and Microsoft’s Xbox donating all revenue from the Fortnite video game earned from March 20th through to April 3rd.
Within the first 24 hours,the initiative raised over $36 million dollarsand now, with the fundraising period ended, the total amount of money raised for Ukraine sits at over $144 million. Definitely an impressive amount.
As promised in the initial announcement, all of the raised funds will be divvied up between Direct Relief, UNICEF, World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Refugee Agency, and World Central Kitchen.
“Our deepest thanks to everyone who joined us in supporting humanitarian relief efforts for people affected by the war in Ukraine,” Epic Games posted on theirofficial Fortnite Twitter accountearlier this week.
Microsoft’s head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, also shared a response to the fundraising efforts on his own account. “Really incredible to see how the gaming community can have impact beyond the playing of games,”his tweet reads. “Thank you Fortnite for putting this together, inspiring to see the results.”
Those wishing to donate money to help Ukraine now that the campaign has ended are encouraged to donate directly to the above mentioned organizations directly.
In other Fortnite news, the game’sApril Crew Pack is now livefor Fortnite Crew subscribers to claim in-game and a major content update is set to roll out today which will add a variety of new outfits and the specialChapter 3 Season 2 Battle Passappearances for those who are already over Level 100 to unlock.
