What you need to know
We’ve updated this post with information about a potential release date hint from 343 Industries' founder, Bonnie Ross.
Originally set to release alongside the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S,Halo Infinitewas delayed earlier in 2020. A newblog postfrom 343 Industries confirms that Halo Infinite is now targeting a Fall 2021 release date. Ateasefrom the developer’s founder, Bonnie Ross, strongly suggests that the game may even release on November 15, which is the 20th anniversary of the release of Halo: Combat Evolved back in 2001. However, this is unconfirmed.
In this blog post, Creative Director Joseph Staten, whojoined the teamback in August, shared his impressions of the campaign and explained that the new Fall 2021 window is meant to allow the team to improve different aspects of the game while also allowing the developers to “recharge” over the holidays.
Developers at 343 also noted that while the feedback from the July gameplay demo was important, a lot of it was based around work the team was already planning, such as improved global illumination, ambient occlusion, shadows, volumetric lighting and reducing pop-in. There’s some new screenshots as well, showing multiplayer maps, weapons andarmor coatingsin action, which you can see below.
Players can also expect models of NPCs — including Brutes like the now-beloved Craig — to receive additional texture detail and customization, all while making sure the art style is reflecting a “classic Halo” appearance..
Finally, Staten confirms that there will be insider flights sometime next year before Halo Infinite ships in Fall 2021. He also states that moving forward, 343 will be more open and will be sharing more updates on development of Halo Infinite.
