Amid concerns about the susceptibility of Internet of Things (IoT) devices to cyber threats, Microsoft has launched astrategy to fortify IoT security. This idea comes in response to a warning from the United States National Cybersecurity Strategy. They said that IoT devices aren’t protected well enough from cyber threats. Microsoft’s plan focuses on a new way of labeling smart devices for cybersecurity.

On July 18, 2023, the US government announced a labeling program for cybersecurity. This program helps people choose smart devices that are better protected against cyberattacks. The companies that make these devices need to ensure they are secure from when they’re made until they keep getting updates. Microsoft is offering Windows IoT, Azure Sphere, and Edge Secured-Core. These make it easier for devices to meet cybersecurity requirements.

Microsoft’s strategy underscores aZero Trustmodel for IoT security, aligning with the new National Cybersecurity Strategy and the labeling program. In this model, every request and interaction is checked carefully to ensure nothing harmful gets through. A certification program called Edge Secured-Core also helps companies follow security rules when making devices.

Windows IoT has features like BitLocker encryption, Secure Boot, and other ways to prevent attacks. Microsoft is working to match its plans with the goals of the US National Cybersecurity Strategy so that IoT devices become safer.
