Microsoft developers are currently testing a startup boost feature inEdge, that should improve thebrowser‘s launch time.

For now, the feature is only available in Edge Canary and it might be released for general availability with Edge Built 88, according to the FAQ notespostedby Microsoft.

How will I boost Edge speed on startup?

Presently, the Startup boost option is disabled by default in Edge Canary.

Insiders who want to test the feature should find it in thebrowser‘s Settings page:edge://settings/system.

Here, they should see the Startup boost option and a toggle button that they can use. Edge needs restarting for the feature to be activated.

Companies running on Edge Canary will also be able to activate the option and evaluate the impact.

As the name says, the feature will improve Edge startup time since thebrowserwill silently run a set of processes in the background to allow it to launch quicker in Windows 10.

The main benefit of the tested feature, according to Microsoft, is that:

When you log on after device start-up or restart or when your browser is closed, Microsoft Edge will start more quickly when it is launched from the taskbar, desktop, and hyperlinks embedded in other applications.

What will be the impact of Startup boost?

The mentioned processes shouldn’t impact your device’s resource use, the notes mention. Even so, one user pointed out that the developers should also take into consideration making this feature available for testing on heavy loaded RDSH, Citrix XenApp, Windows 10 Multi-User, WVD servers as well.

On the other hand, the notes mention that they are evaluating data, anddevices that do not see expected positive impactmight be removed from the final stage.

The impact of the Startup boost feature will not overlap with the benefits that the recently launched Sleeping Tabs bring.

Edge insiders can send feedback regarding this new feature so that the developers can further analyze and implement it.

Do you think you could benefit from this feature?
