Key notes
Instagram Threads has just been released less than a week ago, and it has already surpassed 100 million users, according to the latest reports. The app is in direct competition with Twitter, andElon Musk is not happy at all about it.
Either way, it seems the app is very popular right now, so if you’re up to using it, then you should know thatyou can also use it on Windows 11 desktops.
And now back to the question that is on everybody’s mind. Of course, with all the talk about it, we have to wonder. Will Instagram Threads surpass Twitter?
Will Instagram Threads surpass Twitter?
Well, it is still very early to say if Instagram Threads will surpass Twitter. The newly-released app got to an astonishing number of 100 million users in a matter of days. 5 days to be exact.
Threads reached 100 million sign ups over the weekend. That’s mostly organic demand and we haven’t even turned on many promotions yet. Can’t believe it’s only been 5 days!
According to the latest reports, Instagram Threads managed to beat ChatGPT to this milestone, while Twitter traffic slowed down considerably.
It seems that the users are not just coming to the platform, but they’re actively engaging in conversations on Threads as well. There are more than 95 million posts on the app already, and over 200 million likes shared all over Threads.
With over 100 million users on the platform, and still counting, it seems that Threads is getting closer to Twitter. Let’s not forget that in November 2022, Elon Musk said that Twitter had approximately 260 million monetizable daily active users in a tweet then.
Twitter added 1.6M daily active users this past week, another all-time highpic.twitter.com/Si3cRYnvyD
So it’s most likely that Instagram Threads’ market share will grow in the following weeks. However, Threads in just at the beginning. And we’re going to have to wait a little longer to see if Threads will really become a product of the time. Meta’s marketing strategy will have to position the platform as an outlet to capture the cultural prints of the moment.
Otherwise, it will have no chance against Twitter. While the platform is not going to push politics and hard news on the feed, Threads wants its users to have social media-based conversations. Whatever that is, that’s up to you.
And while Threads is riding a high wave of popularity right now, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, is not sure if Threads is retentive yet. Exactly that outlet for capturing the cultural present we talked about earlier.
What do you think about Instagram Threads? Do you think its market share will grow over the next period? Let us know in the comments section below.
