Intel announces September 2 event, likely teasing 11th Gen Tiger Lake CPU launch

Intel has “something big to share” on September 2, according to an invitation sent to the press today. The company will hold a virtual event, where we’re expecting it’ll likely launch its 11th Gen CPU lineup.

The 11th Gen CPUs are expected to be the “Tiger Lake” chips that Intelteased at CES 2020. The company didn’t share many details at the time, but itdidshow off a processing-heavy game being run on a Tiger Lake chip in a thin-and-light laptop. Tiger Lake chips will be built on Intel’s Xe architecture, which is expected to bring much more power and graphics processing prowess to sub-25W PCs.

Earlier in July, we saw analleged Tiger Lake benchmark leakthat backs this claim up. The benchmark showed that Intel’s Xe graphics platform beat out NVIDIA’s MX350 chip, which is impressive for integrated graphics.

We’ve already started to get a taste of the laptops that will launch with Tiger Lake chips later this year. In June,Acer announced the new Swift 5, a slim laptop that the company said will include Intel’s Xe graphics architecture. Expect to see more laptops announced after Intel’s September event.

Like Intel’s 10th Gen chips, it’s also reasonable to assume we’ll see Tiger Lake pop up in laptops initially, with desktop chips to follow. For an exact roadmap, however, we’ll have to wait until the September 2 event.
