As reported byGameRant, according to a recent document emerging from the legal battle involving the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft, Nintendo might be releasing a successor to the Nintendo Switch in 2024. The original Nintendo Switch, which debuted in 2017, achieved great success; however, there has been a growing demand for a new system capable of handling modern games more effectively. It was also revealed in the same document that Microsoft expected ‘Xbox exclusives’Starfield and Indiana Jones would sell 10m on PlayStation.
The Nintendo Switch played a pivotal role in revitalizing the esteemed reputation of the company, especially after the lackluster performance of its predecessor, the Wii U. With standout titles likeSuper Smash Bros. Infinite, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, andSuper Mario Odyssey, the console moved Nintendo, a veteran game developer, back into the forefront of the gaming industry. Despite doubts from competitors, Nintendo managed to regain its relevance. Now, it seems that Nintendo is poised to launch the successor to the Switch.
The document, titled “Defendants’ Proposed Post-Trial Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law,” delves into facts, definitions, and pertinent details relevant to the FTC’s efforts to prevent Microsoft from acquiring Activision Blizzard. On page 92 of this 153-page document, an intriguing statement appears: “Nintendo is expected to release the successor to the Switch as early as next year.”
This revelation could be a significant development, providing the first substantial confirmation of a new Nintendo console, which had previously been the subject of speculation. It is important to note that this information does not originate directly from Nintendo, so it should be cautiously approached. Nevertheless, considering Microsoft’s vested interest in monitoring Nintendo’s activities, given the competition between their respective consoles, it is plausible that the information disclosed in the document is accurate.
Fans have long been requesting an upgrade to address the relatively modest specifications of the Nintendo Switch, which often result in performance issues, particularly with more demanding games.
If the new console proves to be backward compatible with Switch games while offering significant performance improvements to ensure smoother gameplay across a broader range of titles and even potentially opening doors for high-performance games likeCyberpunk 2077orElden Ringto be ported to Nintendo, it would undoubtedly generate substantial interest and popularity among gamers.
