Key notes
Xbox has been riding a very high wave of popularity lately, ever sinceMicrosoft announced that Starfield will be a Microsoft exclusive. This means Xbox is also getting the hotly anticipated game.
Even more, the console is getting over 5000 new games that are currently in development, and its roadmapfor the months ahead doesn’t look bad either. The console, at least Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, is popular even in places where it wasn’t before, such as Japan. It became the second best-selling Xbox in the country so far.
Maybe that’s why Square Enix, a Japanese video game developer and publishing studio, and the mastermind behind the Final Fantasy franchise, announced that a lot of its games will be coming to Xbox from now on,according to IGN.
Does “whenever possible” translate to “whenever Sony doesn’t pay us to keep our games off of the Xbox”?https://t.co/lKRpGHkgzy
If you don’t know,Final Fantasy XIV is finally coming to Xbox soon, and with this announcement, Phil Spencer, Xbox Head, also said that Square Enix’s future games will be available to Xbox as well.
Enjoyed being onstage with Yoshi-P and Kiryu-san to announce Final Fantasy XIV coming to Xbox. We’re thrilled that the Xbox community will join the Warriors of Light and we look forward to partnering closely with Square Enix on future games.
What other Square Enix games are coming to Xbox?
During the popular Final Fantasy Fan Fest 2023, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, made an appearance on stage to announce that Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox in Spring 2023. But Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu also said that more Square Enix games are coming to the console, though he did not specify which ones.
And one more thing: as CEO of Square Enix, we want to continue to deliver fabulous games to fans across the world. And of course, we want to welcome the Xbox community as well. Starting with today’s announcement of Final Fantasy XIV coming in spring 2024, and whenever possible, we are planning to bring our games to Xbox for players around the world to enjoy. We’re really looking forward to working closely with Phil and the Xbox team to make this possible.
However, it’s safe to say that games from franchises such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Just Cause, Nier and many more will be making their way to Xbox consoles as well.
If you remember, during theMicrosoft v. FTC trial, it was revealed that Microsoft has very close to buying Square Enix back in 2019, although the deal was not ended. Either way, even if Microsoft didn’t end up buying the legendary game studio, a lot of old and new Square Enix games will be on Xbox.
