What you need to know
The reveal of the long-rumoredFablereboot from Playground Games closed out the recent Xbox Games Showcase. While many fans are excited the franchise is officially coming back, there’s a lot of questions around just what form this new title will take. In an interview withThe Guardian, Head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty talked a little about what newcomers and longtime fans can expect from this new Fable.
Booty mentioned that Playground’s attention to detail and passion for the franchise have impressed him and that everything he’s seen so far indicates it will be a “very high-quality release.”
“With any kind of franchise like that, where you’ve had existing versions, there’s always that balance between what you’re going to bring forward, what still stands up, and what you want to add that’s new,” he continues. “It’s like the challenge of making a new Star Wars movie – there’s stuff that everyone wants you to bring along, but then you’ve got a responsibility to take that to new places and I trust Playground has a good vision for that.”
Recently, we reported thatFable will not be an MMO, contrary to the many rumors currently flying around. This doesn’t mean there won’t be online components like co-op but the focus is solidly on crafting an action-RPG.
Fable does not currently have a release window. When it does arrive, it’ll be available onXbox Series Xand PC.
