MediaTek and Nvidia to partner on new Windows on Arm chips

Nvidia isreportedlyworking closely with MediaTek and could be getting ready to ship the next-generation flagship mobile as early as next year. This partnership will also contribute to the enhancement of AI capabilities as well as gaming functionalities for MediaTek’s application processors,

Sources familiar with the matter further disclosed that aside from the new enhancements, Nvidia and MediaTek will also be working together in a bid to develop Windows on Arm (WOA) platform products for notebook applications.

And while Nvidia’s earnings in the fourth quarter that ended earlier this year in January indicate that the company took a 21% decline, supply for large-volume orders continues to remain steady specifically for A100/H100 chips as well as A800/H800 GPUs.

Building on this premise, sources with close links to Taiwan’s semiconductor supply chain have also indicated that the company continues to receive steady orders for its A100/H100 and A800/H800 chips. The chips are in place to help it make use of its 7/5nm production capacity.

With this new partnership, both Nvidia and MediaTek are more likely to make their way through the notebook market courtesy of their Windows on Arm platform products. The sources also indicated that MediaTek is also going to transition from the production of midrange notebooks and compete with other key players in the industry on an even playing field with the Windows on Arm platform products.

It’s worth noting that MediaTek’s main focus at the moment is entry-level Chromebooks which currently stand at 20% of the market share. However, per estimates made, there’s going to be a shift in global shipments for Chromebooks approximating to 20 million units in 2023.
