Microsoft has acknowledged a new compatibility issue with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers and Windows 11, which causes some devices to receive an error with a blue screen. As a result, Microsoft has applied an upgrade block on Windows 10 PCs with incompatible Intel SSD drivers, which won’t be offered Windows 11 for now.
According to Microsoft, the issue is caused by certain versions of Intel SST drivers. “The affected driver will be named Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) Audio Controller under System Devices in Device Manager and have the file name IntcAudioBus.sys and a file version of 10.29.0.5152 and earlier or 10.30.0.5152 and earlier”, the company explained on theWindows Health Dashboard(viaNeowin).
If you have a Windows 10 PC that you want to upgrade to Windows 11 PC despite this safeguard hold, Microsoft recommends checking with your device manufacturer is an updated driver is available. The compatibility issue is actually resolved by installing Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers version 10.30.00.5714 and later or 10.29.00.5714 and later.
