Microsoft and Oracle have announcedOracle Database@Azure, a solution for running Oracle database services on Microsoft Azure, whose hints they dropped acouple of days ago.

All customers can now access Oracle database services on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) via Microsoft Azure data centers, providing benefits for both parties. The aim is to combine Oracle’s database product with Azure’s security, flexibility, and services.

The announcement did not provide many details about Oracle Database@Azure. However, it is anticipated to provide additional choices for Oracle clients to migrate their databases to the cloud. The objective is to deliver a completely integrated solution for deploying, managing, and utilizing Oracle database instances on Azure.

Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft said:

We have a real opportunity to help organizations bring their mission-critical applications to the cloud so they can transform every part of their business with this next generation of AI. Our expanded partnership with Oracle will make Microsoft Azure the only other cloud provider to run Oracle’s database services and help our customers unlock a new wave of cloud-powered innovation.

Oracle and Microsoft will jointly provide support for mission-critical workloads on Oracle Database@Azure.

Customers can purchase Oracle Database@Azure through Azure Marketplace and use their existing Oracle Database licenses. Oracle will operate and manage its services within Microsoft’s data centers, starting with regions in North America and Europe.

Another significant thing happened at the event as Oracle founder Larry Ellison made hisfirst-ever tripto Microsoft headquarters. Could their rivalry in the database software market for over three decades be the reason for this delay?
