Microsoft has produced an internal demo of Minecraft which allows players to direct the game using the power of AI rather than manually playing it, according to a report bySemafor.

Apparently, in this version of Minecraft players can tell the game what to do via text prompts. However, this doesn’t seem to use the Prometheus model behindBing’s new AI chat search.

You may recall that the Elon Musk-founded OpenAI—which has been very much in the headlines lately as the company behind ChatGPT—announced last year that its researchers had“taught” an AI model to play Minecraftby feeding it 70,000 hours worth of Minecraft videos.

The Semafor report says that Microsoft currently has no plans to bring AI implementation to the public retail version of Minecraft. However it does beg the question of what AI could mean for gaming in the future. Case in point: at theGame Developer’s Conference in MarchSfefano Corazza, Head of Roblox Studio is scheduled to give a talk discussing “Advancing Content Creation with Generative AI.”
