Microsoft is letting gamers know that Xbox Live services on Windows Phone will be shut down on May 16, 2022. The message was posted in the Xbox app on Android and iOS devices and means many online features of Windows Phone games that connect with Xbox Live will no longer work come that day (via Windows Central.)
According to Microsoft’s message, Xbox features like earning achievements will stop working after this date. Some games may still be playable, but progress will not be recorded to your Xbox profile. The full message can be seen below.
Starting May 16, 2022, Xbox features will no longer be supported on Windows Phone devices. As part of this change, earning achievements will be retired on Windows Phone devices. Some games may still be playable on your phone, but progress will not be recorded to your Xbox profile.
This move should not be surprising, as Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 Mobile back in 2020. Ending support for Xbox Live on Windows Phones also enables Microsoft to focus its server power on more modern services, like Xbox Game Streaming, and the Xbox Game Pass App.
Of course, if you do have a Windows Phone, and are currently enjoying Xbox Live Services for any remaining games, it’s best to try and 100% those achievements as soon as you can. Because come May 22, there’s no going back.
