Microsoft is teasing “hardwear” for July 12, but what does that even mean?

Well, we weren’t ready for this one! Over on Instagram, Microsoft is teasing “hardwear” for a drop on July 12 at 7 am PT. Yes, we’re sure that’s not a typo or grammatical error.

The company has obsessively marketed and turned its Instagram page to promote that “hardwear” on July 12. We’re not quite sure what “hardwear” can be, but we’re guessing that it is some new clothing-related item from Microsoft. That’s because of the choice of the word “wear” and the fact that the usual “hardware” is not spelled with the usual “ware” at the end.

Still confused? If this is in fact some kind of “wear” from Microsoft, we’re guessing it probably might end up like theannual Windows ugly sweater that Microsoft sent outto journalists, and recently allowed the public to purchase. It looks to be a summer-related item, though. We can see sneakers,hats, flowers,denim jeans, or jackets in a couple of the posts teasing the “hardwear.” There are 12 posts total about “hardwear.” But interestingly enough, there’s also a photo showing old-school Windows PCs, so there’s that to consider, too. That post mentions “giving us all the nostalgic feels.”

There’s no knowing what Microsoft is up to with this, but the posts do seem to mention “creativity” a lot, so who knows if this is a tease for an actual Surface drop? The Surface Instagram and Twitter have been quiet, and so has Panos Panay, so there’s no telling and it might just be a clothing item after all. Also, Microsoft is just fresh off the launch of the Surface Laptop Go 2, so we doubt this is related to a new Surface
