Microsoft has unveiled anew security enhancement for its Teams Rooms on Windows through its Microsoft 365 roadmap. This update allows IT administrators to bolster security measures by configuring and mandating a meeting ID and passcode for joining meetings on Teams Rooms, whichunveiled a number of updateslast month. The added layer of security is targeted at ensuring heightened levels of privacy during virtual gatherings.

Meeting IDs and passcodes serve the purpose of deterring unauthorized participants from accessing a meeting. Additionally, they aid in recognizing individuals participating in the meeting. Meeting IDs and passwords are already available for Microsoft Teams but not for Microsoft Teams Rooms.

While we’re not sure why it is taking this long for Microsoft to implement it, we could only guess that they have different priorities, such as improving the audio and video quality or maybe implementing meeting IDs and passcodes for Teams Rooms will require significant testing and validation.

This update, designated with Feature ID 101332, has been included in the roadmap since April 4, 2023. It underwent its latest modification on August 10, 2023. It is specifically tailored for Teams Rooms Pro customers.

This security feature will be deployed during the General Availability release phase. While a preview is available in December 2024, the full rollout will commence in the same month. This enhancement will be accessible across various platforms, including Desktop, and applicable to different cloud instances, including Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant), GCC High, and GCC.
