In a development planned to buoy tech developers, Microsoft is set to infuse new life into its Copilot services. The tech giant recently announced its latest endeavor – the “AI and Copilot Extensibility Dev Program.” This initiative is aimed at supporting developers as they delve into and expand Microsoft’s AI-based Copilot services.
At the heart of this innovative program will be a well-recognized face—Dona Sarkar. Renowned for her leadership at the Windows Insider Program, Sarkar spilled the beans on her new role through aLinkedIn post.
I started writing code in 1998 (!) and over the past 25 years (!!) I have seen the magical things that being a developer can do…I’m headed back to my dev roots.
The role will see Sarkar report directly to Microsoft’s office of its Chief Technology Office and all of Copilot’s owners. Designed to facilitate third-party developers, the program is intended to broaden access and enhance the functionality of Copilot services.
According to her, the goal is to enable developers to leverage their data to create AI-fueled products.
A Sneak Peek Into Future Endeavors
In anticipation of progress, Sarkar promised:
You will be seeing a lot of tutorials, blogs, videos, code samples, skilling stuff and experimental content from me in the upcoming weeks culminating in a big launch moment at MS Ignite on November 15th.
The official program launch is planned for Microsoft’s Ignite conference scheduled for November 15.
Sarkar’s leadership of the Windows Insider Program spanned over three years until her transition in 2019 to oversee the advocacy and evangelism for the Microsoft Power Platform. She made another strategic move in 2021, assuming the role of Director of Tech for Microsoft Accessibility.
Balancing Excitement and A Tinge of Sadness
While expressing immense excitement about this new opportunity, Sarkar also revealed a sense of sadness. She remarked:
I have loved my 2.5 years in Accessibility. I have never learned so much about the human impact of tech before, and you know I will forever focus on making sure that people with disabilities, neurodiversity, and mental health have equitable access to tech.
Developers intrigued by the possibilities of extending Copilot services are invited to take part in a poll. Sarkar encourages participation, as it provides valuable insights to inform her AI developer strategy.
