Microsoft has updated its response to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. After the companyinitially suspended all salesof its products in Russia, it now has said that it will “significantly scale down” operations in the nation, via astatement seen in Bloomberg.
As a result of this move, about 400 employees will be affected, but Microsoft is working closely with them to ensure that “they are treated with respect.” In the meantime, though, Microsoft is still planning to fulfill existing contracts with Russian customers. The company’s full statement is below.
As a result of the changes to the economic outlook and the impact on our business in Russia, we have made the decision to significantly scale down our operations in Russia. We will continue to fulfill our existing contractual obligations with Russian customers while the suspension of new sales remains in effect

Microsoft is just the latest U.S. technology giant to make such a move. IBM suspended operations and business there, and Apple and Nike have also stopped sales in Russia.
