Philips announces two new 4K monitors for current and next-gen Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5

Philips announced two new 4K monitors for console gamers, in the form of the 55-inch 8M1RY and 27-inch 8M1R. The larger of the two panels is billed by Philips as “the largest console gaming optimized monitor.” They’re likely not wrong here with the huge 55-inch panel and 120Hz refresh rate.

The company teamed up with Bowers & Wilkins for an included 40W speaker built into the monitor. And because it’s a premium Philips display, you’ve got Ambiglow that shoots out colored light in three directions on the back wall. The 3840 x 2160 resolution is matched by DisplayHDR 1000, 2.5ms response time (1.5ms for DisplayPort), and a 120Hz refresh rate. The 558M1RY will be available by the end of June 2020 for €1299 (around $1,500).

The 278M1R is geared towards FPS gamers and esports. It’s the first monitor from Philips to cater to competitive gaming. You’ve got a resolution of 3840 x 2160, 60Hz refresh rate, and a focus on reducing input lag to an absolute minimum. It will be available in July 2020 with an MSRP of €449 (around $500).
