Ubisoft has outlined its next Y5S2.1 update headed to Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, bringingvarious previously-outlined balancing adjustmentsto all platforms. The firstOperation Steel Wave midseasonpatch packs changes to new Operators Ace and Melusi, extending to Japanese hard-breacher, Hibana. It also serves as its vehicle for a new “Match Cancellation” feature, designed to help prevent unbalanced team sizes in the Ranked playlist.
The Y5S2.1 arrival means significant changes to the newest Operators and their gadgetry. Attacker-slowing Melusi receives several tweaks, scaling back her Banshee’s reach and effect on players. The deployable gadget’s radius has reduced by one third, while also adjusting how the speed penalty scales based on proximity. The nerf lowers the volume of the Banshee for the affected player, too.
Ace is also subject to a minor setback, adjusting how his SELMA Breach Charge interacts with gadgets through reinforced walls. The original implementation allowed a charge to destroy defender devices through walls with smart placement. Unintended by design, the patch corrects the issue and extends to an identical tactic with Hibana’s X-Kairos pellets.
The other noteworthy inclusion is “Match Cancellation,” a long-awaited addition for Ranked to counter uneven matchmaking. If Ranked matches start with less than ten players, or a player quits before the first round, a team vote can end the game early without MMR impact.

MATCH CANCELLATION
Match Cancellation will go live with the Y5S2.1 update! We have tested it on the TS and as well as internally against a number of potential circumstances. However as it is a new feature, please let us know if you have any feedback or issues to report with Match Cancellation at r6fix.ubi.com.
Match Cancellation is a new feature that will allow players to cancel their current Ranked match under the condition that team sizes are unbalanced at the beginning of the match (eg: if players disconnect before the first round, or if a lobby is formed with less than 10 players). The Match Cancellation vote option will become available for the incomplete team during the prep phase and a majority vote will cancel the match. A canceled match will show as canceled and have no impact on MMR.
Abandon penalties are still in place and players who abandon an ongoing Ranked Match are still subject to escalating abandon sanctions.
If a match cancellation vote is triggered, leaving before the validation of the Match Cancellation vote will also result in an abandon penalty. Players should remain in the game until the Match Cancellation vote is validated and the game has been canceled.
