Razer’s new Tomahawk Gaming Desktop is a tiny tower of modular power

Razer’s compact gaming PC, which it firstshowed off at CES 2020, is finally here. The Razer Tomahawk Gaming Desktop goes up for preorder this month, and it brings a unique, modular design built around Intel’s NUC platform. The result is a tiny, but powerful gaming PC that makes for relatively easy upgrades and takes up very little space on your desk.
The Razer Tomahawk Gaming Desktop shares a design lineage with Razer’sATX and mini-ITX PC casesof the same name. With the Tomahawk Gaming Desktop, though, you get a full PC that’s ready to go out of the box. All of it is packed into a chassis that’s highly reminiscent of Razer’sCore X ChromaeGPU for laptops.
Inside, you’ll find an Intel NUC, which is a package deal that combines the 9th Gen Core i9 CPU, RAM, SSD, and motherboard in an all-in-one unit that’s easily removed and upgraded with another NUC, should you decide to do so down the line. There’s a separate slot for the graphics card, where you can either provide your own or order a Tomahawk with anNVIDIA RTX 3080already packed inside.
All of the internals are attached to a sled mechanism that slides in and out of the case for easy access. To access the components for upgrades, or even just for a routine cleaning, you slide the sled out and simply detach whatever you’re swapping out. No tools necessary.
This being a Razer product, of course there’s RGB included. The Tomahawk chassis have a nice under-glow that can be synced up with any other Razer products you may have. The case itself has a much smaller footprint than most gaming PC builds you’ll encounter, giving you more free desk space to work with.
Pricing is on the high side, though that’s to be expected when you’re talking about an enthusiast rig like this. If you’re providing your own graphics card, you can pick up the Tomahawk Gaming Desktop without a GPU for $2,399.99. There’s also the option to snag one with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, which puts the price at $3,199.99.
Razer says that the Tomahawk Gaming Desktop is set to go up for preorder in December, but there’s no availability date just yet. It will be available to order exclusively from Razer’s own online store to start. If you like the look of the Tomahawk, but would rather put together your own build, you can pick up the Tomahawk ATX or mini-ITX PC casesstarting at $179.
