Sea of Thieves crosses 15 million players, over 1 million copies sold on Steam
Massive growth cements the importance of this new IP for Rare and Xbox.

Rare’s pirate simulator Sea of Thieves just keeps growing. According to a newpress releasefrom Joe Neate, executive producer at Rare, Sea of Thieves recently crossed 15 million players, with over a million copies sold on Steam sinceits launchon that platform in June. Additionally, Neate says that June 2020 was the biggest month for the game since its launch, with over 3.3 million players.
This is impressive continued growth, as our last official player count for the game was 10 million players earlier this yearin January. Sea of Thieves was the biggest new IP from Xbox Game Studios this generation back in January, so that title is only cemented 5 million additional players added in a year.
Sea of Thieves has seen near-innumerable updates since its original launch, adding Megalodons, new items, quests, pets like cats and more. While we don’t have exact details yet, Rare has hinted atXbox Series Xupgradesbeing availablewhen the console launches in Holiday 2020. In the meanwhile, the next update for the game is calledAshen Windsand it adds a flamethrower skull weapon.
