Microsoft hasreleased a new Skype update this week, which brings a couple of new features across all platforms. The biggest addition is a modernized messaging UI for the Skype desktop and web apps, including rounded corners, new color options, and larger avatars.

In addition to this new messaging experience, Skype is also getting a refreshed calling experience and new screen-sharing options. Meanwhile, the iOS and Android apps now support a new search bar and updated avatars.

Here are the full release notes for Skype version 8.78, which is now available on Windows, Mac, Linux, the web, as well as iOS and Android:

Sharing is caring:We’ve given you more options for sharing—or not sharing—in Skype.Learn more about screen sharing in Skype.

Thoroughly modern messaging:In the light theme, rounded corners and added color modernize our design and make your messages look sharp. We’ve also made avatars larger.

And modern calling, too:Enjoy a modernized experience while you’re on a call.

Bug fixes and stability improvements.We wrapped some bugs in a rug and took them outside. Then we tidied up a bit.

Stylin’ and profilin’:A bright, new search bar and updated avatars allow you to connect with style.

Keep it moving:Notifications have moved to the bottom of the screen for easier navigation.

Bug fixes and stability improvements.We wrapped some bugs in a rug and took them outside. Then we tidied up a bit.

Last but not least, the latest Skype update also includes the usual array of bug fixes and stability improvements. The company has addressed screen-sharing issues during video calls and meetings and a bug that was previously causing the app to crash while sharing photos.
