Eve caused quite the buzz with its first 2-in-1 device, the original Eve V. Since then, the company behind the Eve V has gone through some changes. Following extended delays, issues with shipping devices, and in some cases, devices not shipping at all,Eve switched to a new business structure.
Now, the first PC from Eve since that new structure is available for preorder, the new Eve V. TheEve V is available for preorderstarting at a reduced price of $1,189. The price will bump up to start at $1,399 after 500 units are sold. Preordering a device requires a $300 payment that Eve says is fully refundable. Eve states that the Eve V should start shipping in Q3 2021. The backlit keyboard costs $130 and the V Pen costs $80.
Like the original, the new Eve V is a 2-in-1 device akin to the Surface Pro. It features a kickstand, a detachable keyboard, and will look familiar to anyone used to high-end Windows 10 2-in-1s. What makes the Eve V unique is that it is a crowd-sourced and crowd-funded project. Eve speaks with people regularly to receive feedback on what they’d like in the device. As you might expect from a device built around feedback, the Eve V has quite an impressive spec sheet, though it comes at a high starting price.
The Eve V has a 13.4-inch UHD+ screen that supports touch. It can reach 500 nits and supports HDR. That display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. You can use a pen on the screen as well, as it supports Wacom AES 2.0.
Inside, the Eve V runs on 11th Gen Intel Core processors and Intel Iris Xe graphics. It’s available with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of NVMe SSD storage. On the connection side of things, it supports Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6, and has an option for LTE on the Core i7 models.
The 2-in-1 supports the V Pen, which uses Wacom AES 2.0 technology and supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt.
On paper, the Eve V has an excellent spec sheet and features an impressive design. It may be worth taking a cautious approach with the new Eve V, however, as this is the first PC the company has shipped since a major restructure. If shipments arrive on time and the device delivers on its promise, it could be a solid competitor to theSurface Pro 7.
