WhatsApp, the widely-used messaging application owned by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is offering anewly improved desktop application for Windows. It features, among other things, group video calling access to all users.

Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a statement on Facebookannouncing the launch of a Windows application for WhatsApp. This application will enable desk-based users to make end-to-end encrypted video calls with up to eight people concurrently and allow audio calls with a maximum of 32 attendees. The company asserted that they plan to expand the capacity of group calls moving forward.

With this move, the instant messaging giant is seeking to bolster its presence in the instant messaging and corporate communication sphere with its new Windows app, which has been designed with a familiar user interface for effortless usage and swift loading times. This puts it on par with other popular platforms like Slack and video conferencing applications such as Zoom and Google Meet.

Earlier this week, WhatsApp announced two new updates that focus on groups. The first allows group admins to view requests to join their groups in the “Pending Participants” section, while the second makes it simpler to find shared groups within search results by displaying them when a name is looked up. Before these changes, users had to go to a contact’s profile to identify common groups.

Furthermore, the WhatsApp experience is now more streamlined, allowing users to sync multiple devices simultaneously and thus making it a more convenient experience to carry conversations over device interfaces with ease.
