December marks the end of support forWindows10 version 1903, but Microsoft came prepared. In an attempt to protect potentially-vulnerable devices fromsecuritythreats, the company will start force-upgradingWindows10 1903 devices to the newer 1909 version.
AlthoughMicrosoft‘s strategy should cover all devices that run 1903, some may skillfully dodge this update, willingly or otherwise. However, the company urges customers who might be running end-of-service versions of theOSto perform the upgrade as soon as possible.
Windows 10 1903 nearing end of service
In a recentannouncementon theMicrosoftwebsite, the company reminds its customers thatWindows10, version 1903 will soon reach its end of support.
On December 8, 2020, all editions of Windows 10, version 1903 and Windows 10 Server, version 1903 will reach end of service.
In the same manner,Microsoftlets us know that it won’t provide monthly quality and security patches for devices that run the end-of-service editions of the operating system.
Windows 10Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstation, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise running on version 1903 are the ones targeted byMicrosoft‘s announcement.
Windows 10 1809 reached end of support
As a side note, we want to remind you that today, November 10, 2020, marks the end of service forWindows10, version 1809. The affected editions are as follows:
If you’re in this situation, it’s highly recommended that you upgrade to a newer version, if you want to keep receiving security, non-security and quality updates on your devices.
Mandatory Windows 10 1909 updates
Microsoftwill attempt to upgrade devices that runWindows10, version 1903 to the 1909 version automatically, as they explain in theannouncementon theWindowsmessage center website.
To keep you protected and productive, we will soon begin updating devices running Windows 10, version 1903 to Windows 10, version 1909. This update will install like a monthly update, resulting in a far faster update experience.
If you discover that your device didn’t receive the forcedOSupgrade, you may want to try and apply it by yourself by using the Check for updates function inWindows10.
Naturally, if you’ve already upgraded toWindows 10 20H2, this whole situation shouldn’t be a concern to you. Unless you’re among the unlucky ones who experience severe issues with 20H2, such asforced reboots or BSODs.
