If you’re still trying to download thelatest Windows 10 build, but you can’t because the install process hangs, there’s no need to panic. Microsoft has officially acknowledged this build install issue and posted a quick workaround on how to fix it.
The Redmond giant confirms that this issue affects only a small percentage of users, which is a good piece of news after all.
Windows 10 build install hangs
Issue: During the 15042 install, your PC may “hang” and become unresponsive at the Windows boot logo screenWhy: One of the required install processes may initialize but not complete or timeout, thus causing the “hang”What to do: There are no lasting effects from this issue. Please see the workaround steps below to continue with your update
Fix: Windows 10 build install hangs
- Manually reboot your PC if it “hangs” at the boot logo during the first attempt to install build 150422. Allow your PC to successfully roll back to your previous OS build3. Log into your PC and open aCommand Prompt(Admin) window:
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\setup\upgrade\nsimigrationroot /f
netsh int ipv6 set locality state=disabled
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nsi{eb004a01-9b1a-11d4-9123-0050047759bc}\28 /f
- Close the Command prompt window5. Reboot your PC6. Re-scan for updates and re-attempt the install.
Unfortunately, some Insiders report that Microsoft’s solution doesn’t always work, and despite having performed the steps listed above, the build install process still hangs.
Trying to upgrade from Build 15031. My install hangs at 23% consistently. I tried running the above commands, rebooting, rescanning and upgrading. I removed an SD card I had plugged in, and also unplugged my keyboard as was suggested elsewhere. Still hangs at 23%.
Did you manage to fix the build install issues using Microsoft’s solution? If you’ve come across other workarounds, you can list the troubleshooting steps in the comment section below.
