Microsoft has confirmed afile copy bug in Windows 11 2022that’s causing the operating system to slow down.  The problem occurs when copying a multi-gigabyte file from a remote location to a Windows 11 machine. The performance could degrade as much as 40 percent.  Copying the same file on a previous version of Windows 11 doesn’t exhibit the issue.

Microsoft doesn’t have a permanent fix for the issue yet but does clarify the issue is not in SMB code. You could experience this issue doing local file copies as well. A workaround is offered using the robocopy or xcopy command with the /J syntax that does return your system to full performance. Microsoft will address the issue in a future update.
