During the deluge of Microsoft news pouring out from Redmon yesterday, the announcement of the Xbox app for Windows nowupdated to support ARM64 natively, was a bit overshadowed.
Earlier this week, Google and its partners announced a series of Chromebooks aiming to satiate the niche gaming crowd looking toleverage cloud-based gaming. While Google’s own cloud gaming services isin the midst of being shuttered, the company highlighted other services such as Nvidia GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, and Microsoft’s xCloud.
Yesterday, Microsoft seemingly endorsed Google’s gaming Chromebook initiative by delivering the very tool that will make it a far more pleasant gaming experience on these upcoming low-end laptop offerings.
The library of AAA games joining Game Pass and xCloud continue to grow and now gamers on ARM powered devices will get console-like gaming experiences with titles such as Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, and Microsoft Flight Simulator in over 28 countries without having to worry about compatibility or native performance issues.
Supporting ARM64 development also means the continued expansion of the Xbox Cloud Gaming service and as such, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, to more devices which will now include iOS, select smart TVs, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Logitech’s G Cloud handheld,Meta’s Quest VR headsets, NVIDIA Shield’s, Windows PCs and Chromebooks.
