Out of all the numerous PC gaming launchers and services,GOG Galaxy 2.0remains one of the most integrated solutions, as the service from CD Projekt, the company behind games like the Witcher 3 andCyberpunk 2077, can draw in your games libraries, friends lists, and more from platforms like Steam, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store. Now, the team behind GOG Galaxy 2.0 has announced that they’retesting a new feature internally that would allow players to purchase games from other platforms.
The feature, which is in beta testing for a handful of users now, would allow PC gamers to buy games from other platforms, including exclusive games from places like the Epic Games Store. While this does potentially draw away from the biggest advantage GOG has, which is DRM-free games, it’s another step towards only needing one launcher to manage all of your PC gaming.
Hopefully CD Projekt are able to strike a good balance between allowing players to purchase, install, and play the games they want from anywhere without having to leave GOG Galaxy 2.0, and ensuring that GOG Galaxy 2.0 doesn’t lose what makes it special in the first place: the unique DRM-free marketplace that CD Projekt has built up. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops over time.
